How to retrieve a failed implant ? A video demo !

It is often easier to remove a failed implant than a tooth. Unscrewing with hand or micromotor helps! Usually, the region is curetted out and after 6 weeks the implant is replaced!

A Failed implant in a Bruxism Case !

This is the case that pushed me to start this blog because of less reporting of the more common problem " Dental Implant failure "

This case was referred to me from a general dentist with his above preop photos!
I will post the radiographs later!

40 year old female patient without any medical complications complained of mobile implant in 36 region. The implant presented with Grade II mobility in all directions! Obvious signs of implant failure!
The implant was retrieved and the implant site curetted out and is being left to heal for atleast 6 weeks before any new implant placement !

I was reviewing where the dentist went wrong ! The following reasons I felt caused the failure!

1. The patient was a Bruxist..! ( Though Bruxism is not a contraindication for implant placemnt, I feel always suggesting a night guard and occlusal evaluation in such patients)
2. The implant was 8mm in length, which was way beyond any acceptable limits for a molar tooth.
3.The crown root ratio was reversed
4. The patient had maintained a poor oral hygiene too
5. Immediate loading was done which jeopardised things further

I would suggest any dentist to avoid all these mistakes. Case selection, as I always say, is the most important part of Implantology.

P.S : More Failure cases soon to be posted, for indepth analysis.
